| Main Page Organization Announcements & News Toy-Ki Silvercraft West Slideshow From the earliest times, objects made of silver were used to demonstrate power and wealth. The precious metal was fashioned into jewelry, parade armor, ritual vessels and elaborate tableware. Works of art in silver were commissioned not only by rulers but also by wealthy individuals who wished to imitate the splendor and richness of the royal court. The art of silvercraft was introduced to the Indians of the Southwest by the Spanish explorers. Each of the distinctive Hopi, Zuni and Navajo silversmiths developed a style unique to themselves.
